We are an inquisitive team committed to diversity, inclusion and equal opportunities. Through our events and activities, we not only encourage cultural exchange and creative expression, but also actively promote political, democratic and cultural education. The Kulturhaus "Alter Schlachthof" e.V. is not only one of the most important cultural institutions in the region, but also a central "third place" in Soest. With over 200 cultural events a year and a daily film art program, we offer a wide range of cultural experiences. In addition, we create space for individual activities and a variety of courses. Workshops, group meetings, initiatives and clubs fill the historic rooms of the Kulturhaus Alter Schlachthof with life every day.

As a socio-cultural center, we focus on interdisciplinary projects and innovative event formats. Major events such as our popular flea markets, the "Christmas Quarter" and the legendary "Soester Summer" enrich the program and provide special highlights.

Our focus is on democracy education, inclusion, diversity, accessibility and professional cultural work. Through this focus, we make an important contribution to the social and cultural development of the city of Soest.

The "Alter Schlachthof", originally an industrial wasteland after the closure of the municipal abattoir in 1989, was transformed into a lively cultural center . Our doors have been open to the public since April 29, 1993.

Our premises are centrally located, just a six-minute walk from the town hall, and cover an area of around 8,000 square meters. The four buildings offer a usable area of around 2,500 square meters, and the paths between the buildings are covered on around 1,000 square meters. Almost all rooms are barrier-free.
