The Thealozzi is an independent cultural and theater house in Bochum-Stahlhausen.Picturesquely framed by the cemetery of the Protestant parish of Eppendorf-Goldhamme, the allotment garden association on Trottenberg and the soccer pitch of SV Germania Bochum-West 12/27 e. V., its location positions it organically between the great and serious themes of life.
The Thealozzi is a strange, wonderful, highly topical place.
Culture lovers and creative artists meet here to exchange ideas and look for ways to put these passions into practice. From the very beginning, the artists working here have been on the lookout - for a space to rehearse, sparking ideas, further development, a stage for their skills, courage, praise, conflicts, solutions and the dustpan, which is once again not in its usual place.
The possibilities of this house are limited and endless at the same time; so the search for possibilities is greater than the space that surrounds us. A maxim of the house describes the practical handling of this paradox: "You can do anything here. But then you have to do everything"
There are only a few limits to the ideas here; you can transform the dance space into a Viennese coffee house, bring actors from all over the world from Brazil to Canada under one roof for a festival or swap the stage and auditorium for each other without further ado. But then you have to do it.
For 35 years, impulses have been generated from here, artists have taken off and gone out into the world with their ideas, their self-confidence and their art. Others have stayed to maintain, explore and further develop the work opportunities. The spectrum covered, the diversity of theater and cultural forms that are at home in the house, is probably unique in this form.
It should be noted that the boundaries between the audience and the people who listen and watch have tended to blur here for 35 years; many parts of the audience have found and continue to find themselves on the other side at some point. What is rehearsed, developed and done is important here. Beautiful. Hard work. Easy. Funny. Sad. Thoughtful. But never sacred in the sense that it excludes. Instead, it invites.
