In the
location's words:
"Don't start with the good old things but with the bad new ones" In November 2011 we, Stephanie Marek, Latefa Wiersch and Jakub Simcik, opened a store space in Leipzig Lindenau between the offer store and the Kaufland complex, the NPD office and the Spätis run by migrants and expanded the art scene of Lindenau by another place. Under which circumstances can socio-cultural or site-specific projects be art? Can activism be art without being propagandistic? Can art be silly entertainment? Should art be able to have an impact on our here and now and lead to existential moments? Furthermore: if art cannot be separated from society and the socio-economic environment, what does this mean for organizing exhibitions? We see in designing exhibition concepts not only the possibility to deepen our own interests and to develop new things in exchange with other artists. Rather, we want to expand the Leipzig art scene through perspectives beyond the HGB and its "Leipzig School" and, depending on financial means, also show international artists. In addition to exhibitions, there should also be space for alternative, partly performative events, be it a film screening, a piano concert or a backgammon tournament.
