Once the GI's cinema, then the Bundeswehr's laundry room, then just a cold, empty, run-down barracks hall. 180 m² in size, located behind the west gate of the former Kemmel barracks.

In 1995, private commitment brought the hall out of its twilight state. Today it is a well-known venue, a forum for regional talent as well as international performers. Whether rock/jazz/indie or electro concerts, guitar evenings, parties, (improv) theater, films or poetry readings. With its fascinating mixture of indoor culture and club atmosphere, the Westtorhalle always offers the right atmosphere.

The cultural center has been run by the Forum Westtorhalle e.V. association since 1998, which makes a significant contribution to the rich cultural life on Lake Staffelsee with over 90 events a year. There is also a recording studio in the hall.

Concerts and performances are usually held on Fridays and Saturdays. Every Thursday is pub night, time to listen to good music, chat or play a game of table tennis or table football. On Sundays, the tango bar attracts dancers from all over the Oberland to Murnau.

The cultural center is run by the Forum Westtorhalle e. V. association with over 700 members. We have rented the hall from the municipality of Seehausen and organize the entire programme. The events are self-financing. The municipality has spent a lot of money renovating the hall in recent years and only charges a low rent. This also enables us to offer comparatively low admission prices. This is important to us, because enjoying culture should not be a matter of money.

To keep it that way, the association needs as many members as possible. Their contributions make it possible to present something unusual and quirky, to offer cultural diversity without always having to focus on the quota (i.e. the number of visitors). The annual membership fee is 30 euros for individuals, 40 euros for families and 10 euros for pupils and students. Members pay a reduced admission price for most events.
