The MaximiliansForum is an urban art space for fine and applied arts as well as for interdisciplinary art and cultural projects. In exhibitions, installations, panel discussions, expert talks, performances and actions, the latest concepts are presented and socially and culturally relevant issues are discussed at the interface between the applied and liberal arts.

The MaximiliansForum has an open and communicative character. As changeable as the space is in its strict basic architectural structure, as versatile and lively is the atmosphere during the events. Then the idiosyncratic place is enlivened by the dialogical concepts, the actors and a versatile audience from different cultural and social scenes and becomes an inspiring forum for new ideas and visions.

This unique art space, centrally located under Munich's prominent Maximilianstrasse, has a multi-layered past that has played out since the 1970s under the names Lenbachhaus/Kunstforum, Maximiliansforum and most recently ZKMax. In all its various manifestations, the MaximiliansForum, as it has been called since 2010, represents an open, multi-faceted, networked and surprising side of Munich culture as a showcase into the scenes, bringing them together with internationally important positions from various disciplines.

The Passage is open to the public throughout, and admission to its own events is free.

Exhibition venue
In 2000, the approximately 1600m² underpass at the intersection of Altstadtring and Maximilianstraße (from 1973-95 the 'Kunstforum' of the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus) was converted into a variable exhibition space and henceforth called Maximiliansforum. From October 2004 to June 2009, ZKMax presented a continuous, high-quality media art program here. The concept of ZKMax, which exemplifies a protected but nevertheless public space for media art, will also be continued by MaximiliansForum. The location at a traditional Munich cultural mile, in the midst of galleries, theaters, museums and in the most elegant shopping district of Munich offers a unique starting situation for this.
