Just a few steps away from the famous Holsten Gate, on the Obertrave - Lübeck's promenade - lies one of the most internationally renowned and enchanting universities for music: the Musikhochschule Lübeck (MHL). In the middle of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, creativity and talent meet artistic, pedagogical and scientific know-how.

More than 500 young musicians from around 50 nations study here for the stage, the orchestra, the church as well as for teaching and the teaching profession. Stage experience is firmly anchored in the curriculum, as is the development and presentation of new concert formats and music education concepts. With over 400 events per year, the MHL is one of the largest concert organizers in the country. More than 35,000 visitors experience the teaching staff and students in symphony, rock, pop and church concerts, in opera performances and solo evenings as well as at scientific symposia, exhibitions and lecture evenings. The MHL's ten-day Brahms Festival, which was founded in 1992 and is unique in the German university landscape, takes place at the beginning of May with around 30 concerts and over 250 participants under changing mottos.
