In the heart of Bamberg's old town, in a former Jesuit college that is over 300 years old, you will find the Natural History Museum, which displays extraordinary exhibits from the fields of biology and geology. Particularly noteworthy is the "Bird Room", which emerged from a historical natural history cabinet and was set up around 1810. This impressive room is one of the oldest and most beautiful natural history halls in the world. More than a thousand colorful bird specimens as well as historical animal and plant specimens, fossils, minerals, wax fruits and some of the famous Würzburg lying stones (fake fossils) are exhibited in the richly decorated display cases. A true "museum within a museum" that allows visitors to immerse themselves in the natural worlds of over 200 years ago.

The natural history museum's permanent exhibitions and multimedia show are dedicated to a variety of mostly regional natural history topics. Particularly noteworthy are the excellently preserved fossils from the museum's own excavations, which provide exciting insights into the time when Franconia still had a tropical climate - around 154 million years ago.

In addition, changing special exhibitions regularly offer new insights into fascinating aspects of nature. Both biological and geoscientific topics are addressed, often with a current relevance.
