The State Museum of Natural History Stuttgart follows in the tradition of the natural history collection founded in 1791. This in turn goes back to the ducal Kunstkammer from 1600. Thanks to the foresighted development of the collections, the museum can now boast one of the most important natural history collections in Europe. These valuable archives of life and biodiversity form the basis for the biosystematic research to be carried out on site. However, they are also a prerequisite for the museum's diverse exhibition activities. With these two aspects in mind - research and presentation - the collections are constantly being expanded. The combination of natural history research and broad-based knowledge transfer through diverse educational and public relations work is the hallmark of the Museum für Naturkunde.
