Stand among prehistoric giants, dive into the fish life of Lake Möhnesee, watch colorful crystals sparkle under black light, and gain insights into the formation of our solar system—all this and many other exciting things await you at the Dortmund Natural History Museum.
You’ll encounter both extinct and modern habitats and the species that inhabit them. In the geological exhibition, you’ll be guided through a comprehensive collection spanning from the last Ice Age all the way to the Cretaceous Period. But we don’t want to spoil everything for you. The best way to experience these amazing exhibits is to discover them for yourself and embark on a little—but grand—adventure through the ages.

New special exhibition starting in May 2026!
Starting in May 2026, the new exhibition “Human Footprint—Human Activity in Satellite Images”will be on view .In addition, visitors will learn about the formation, diversity, and threats to our soils, as well as how they can be protected and used sustainably.
Other highlights: the large circular viewing tank with a capacity of about 90,000 liters of water and the massive skeleton of a woolly mammoth cow—truly impressive. We never cease to be amazed every time we visit.
