For over 100 years, the Ohnsorg Theater has been an institution in Hamburg. Stars such as Heidi Kabel and Henry Vahl have made the theater famous beyond Germany's borders. The current ensemble and guest stars, as well as the regular television broadcasts in High German by Norddeutscher Rundfunk, continue to ensure that its popularity does not wane. From 1996 to 2017, artistic director Christian Seeler steered the fortunes of the house and always presented a wide-ranging, varied Low German repertoire. With the 2017/2018 season, Michael Lang, long-time artistic director of the Winterhuder Fährhaus comedy, has taken over as artistic director of the Ohnsorg Theater. He proves that popular theater does not have to be just flat entertainment: The Low German repertoire - only the Christmas fairy tale is performed in High German - varies from singspiels to character comedies and serious plays. Of course, the ever-popular Ohnsorg classics are not neglected.

Since August 2011, the Ohnsorg Theater has been at home in its new venue: the Bieberhaus at Heidi-Kabel-Platz 1, right next to the main train station, in the heart of Hamburg. After 75 years in the Große Bleichen, the move to the Bieberhaus has fulfilled a long-held wish for new artistic possibilities. Very good accessibility, better space conditions, first-class technical equipment and the additional studio stage offer excellent perspectives. The attractive new theater building with its spacious foyer areas and state-of-the-art technology delights audiences, and the new catering facilities also offer contemporary comfort.

The Ohnsorg Studio is located on the 1st floor of the Ohnsorg Theater at Heidi-Kabel-Platz 1. The Ohnsorg Theater opened the new studio in the 2012/2013 season. With around 70 seats, audiences experience theater 'up close and personal' in the Studio.

The program includes plays that specifically appeal to a young audience. The focus is on theater for children and young people - op Platt.

Low German is an important part of North German culture and can create regional identity, even for non-active speakers. Through a fresh and lively approach to the language, we show children and young people the topicality of Low German and bring them closer to the language. In the theater, fantasy spaces are created that allow the audience emotional access to the material. In this way, it is also possible to build up a bond with Low German.

The audience is introduced to the language in a playful way: The plays are performed bilingually, so that the young audience can easily follow the story and playfully discover the Low German language. The productions are accompanied by theater pedagogical offers such as teacher workshops, teaching materials, rehearsal visits and follow-up discussions.
