The extraordinary history of the Wolfsburg Planetarium began in 1978 with a gift: to mark the city's 40th birthday, the Volkswagen factory presented the city of Wolfsburg with the "Spacemaster" planetarium projector from Carl Zeiss Jena. Where there's a star projector, there's a planetarium. Lower Saxony's largest planetarium was opened in December 1983.

Due to its special architecture, the Wolfsburg Planetarium is one of the 16 most beautiful planetariums in the world according to Architectural Digest.
