The Romanian Cultural Institute was founded in 1999. It is one of the 15 Romanian cultural institutes currently operating in Budapest, Vienna, Prague, Warsaw, Kishinev, Paris, Rome, Venice, Lisbon, London, Istanbul, Tel Aviv, Madrid, Stockholm and New York. Since 2003, the Romanian Cultural Institute has been a co-founder of the Community of European Cultural Institutes in Berlin (GEK) and since 2006 a member of the EUNIC network (European National Institutions of Culture).
