The Springhorstsee in Burgwedel, approx. 20 km north-east of Hanover, is a charming quarry pond (approx. 450 × 200 m, maximum depth ~7.5 m), which was created by gravel extraction in the 1960s/70s. On the western shore, there is an official sandy beach with a sunbathing lawn, toilet facilities, kiosk, children's playground and a restaurant with a great lakeside terrace, which is accessible for a fee.

The lake is one of the few with drinking water quality and is considered excellent bathing water. The surrounding area is quiet, surrounded by fields and woodland, and there are also camping, family and sports facilities (e.g. indoor pool, bowling alleys, swimming courses).
