The Schwerin State Museum preserves, maintains, researches and presents art treasures of international standing from antiquity to the present day. It is part of the State Palaces, Gardens and Art Collections of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The core of the museum's collection goes back to the ducal collections of Mecklenburg and originally served the purpose of representation. Today, the museum's work focuses on collecting, preserving, exhibiting and communicating art, as well as art historical research.
A work of art is only complete when it is viewed. It is therefore a wonderful task to give everyone access to art according to their knowledge and needs.
Every year, around 490,000 visitors come to the collections and exhibitions of the State Palaces, Gardens and Art Collections of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, confirming not only their interest in the art and culture of the state, but also the great importance of art.
Art and culture have become the trademark of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern alongside the Baltic Sea and the landscape.
