The traditional museum, which dates back to the ducal art and natural history cabinet of the 18th century, only moved to its current location in Pockelsstraße in 1937.
Exhibitions reflecting all areas of the museum's collection can be found here on four floors. In the basement, live amphibians, reptiles and fish are displayed in natural terrariums and aquariums.
In-depth special exhibitions shed light on other topics and are dedicated to regularly changing focal points from nature and science. Current research findings are vividly presented and supplemented by interactive elements.
The historical dioramas on the ground floor and second floor also show native animals in their habitats. The first floor is dedicated to the history of the Natural History Museum and highlights special historical objects in the treasure chamber, shows the diversity of the collection in the foam magazine and invites visitors to try things out in the discovery hall.
