St. Stephen's Cathedral in Passau is an imposing building and one of the largest baroque churches north of the Alps. It impresses with its magnificent interior and the world's largest cathedral organ, which consists of almost 18,000 pipes. Today's cathedral was rebuilt in the 17th century in the Italian Baroque style after a town fire. The bright interior, richly decorated stucco work and impressive ceiling paintings are striking. The cathedral is the spiritual center of the city and the seat of the Bishop of Passau.
