In 1969, a theater group had moved into the small commercial building in the backyard at Hohenheimer Str. 44, and even then called itself Studio Theater Stuttgart. They tirelessly built the stage and auditorium themselves and put on plays at irregular intervals. With the appointment of Norbert Laubacher as artistic director, the group began to professionalize. Always on the lookout for new ideas and always committed, the group soon gained a reputation as a hotbed of talent. The Studio Theater Stuttgart began regular performances in May 1981. Since 1992, it has also been legally independent as a non-profit association with municipal funding. In 1998, in the course of the takeover of the oldest children's theater in Stuttgart, the KRUSCHTELTUNNEL, the Studio Theater became fully professionalized. Since 2001, only freelance professional actors, directors and stage designers have been working at the Studio Theater.
