The Theater am Aegi is a piece of Hanover. Generations of Hanoverians experienced their first Christmas fairy tale on stage here, followed by sophisticated theater and also cinema and cabaret performances in the 50s and 60s.

Since 1994, the Theater am Aegi has been a privatized guest performance venue with an extensive programme of guest performances and events:

History

• 1953 "Hanover's most modern theater": opened as a first-run cinema with an additional stage for artistic and musical performances.
• 1964 Destroyed by a major fire, leaving the Landesbühne and Thalia Theater homeless overnight.
• 1967 Re-equipped and reopened as a large theater (replacement for the Schauspielhaus).
• 1978 New façade added
• 1994 A group of Hanoverians interested in culture and theater believe that this theater must not be allowed to die. Quite the opposite - all forces are mobilized to preserve and revitalize the Hanover venue.
