Founded in September 2004 by Nelly Eichhorn (journalist, dramaturge, director), the theater is committed to international cultural exchange and dialogue. Through ambitious performances of Eastern European plays as well as readings, exhibitions and recitals, the theater has earned an excellent reputation far beyond the borders of Stuttgart.
A network of artists and political institutions in Eastern Europe has been established in a short space of time. Contacts with international partners are maintained and deepened. Theaters from Russia, Poland, Romania and other Eastern European countries bring international color to Stuttgart's cultural life with their guest performances. Annual cultural festivals, author readings, films and musical evenings complete the varied program. The varied program offers classical and contemporary, entertaining and challenging performances for young and old - but always a good piece of theater.
As one of the youngest stages in Stuttgart, the Theater am Olgaeckhas developed into a cultural and political platform for contacts and relations with Eastern European countries. The theater program reflects the developments and changes in the new Europe.
We work closely with the theaters and other cultural institutions in Stuttgart's partner cities.
The Theater am Olgaeckhas set itself the goal of emphasizing European unity in its theater work as well, developing joint cultural activities that transcend language barriers and understand the art form of theater as a combination of poetry and the commonality of national identities.
