With five sections, an ensemble of singers, actors and performers, the Philharmonic Orchestra and the opera and extra choir of the Theater Freiburg, the Theater Freiburg is one of the largest cultural institutions in the city and the region. Drama, music theater, dance, concert formats and the Young Theater form the core of the program, which is supplemented by interdisciplinary projects and guest performances.

Felix Rothenhäusler has been the artistic director of Theater Freiburg since the 2025/26 season. In terms of artistic direction, he and his team focus on "modern popular theater". This refers to a theater of many different varieties that makes no distinction between the popular and the sublime. From repertoire hits to new plays, from guest dance performances to participative projects with young people from Freiburg, from grand opera to hit musicals, there is something for everyone. Art is understood as a lively dialog and theater as a place of encounter and exchange.
