Welthaus Bielefeld is a development policy organization that brings together volunteers and full-time staff working toward global social justice and sustainable development. In our house groups, many people volunteer to do public outreach on development policy issues or on countries in Africa and Latin America, support partner projects, sing in the “Wozachor” choir, or get involved in fair trade.

The full-time staff members carry out significant portions of the educational and advocacy work, organize cultural events, coordinate development cooperation with our project partners and volunteers, and are responsible for fundraising and administration. A volunteer board of directors determines the guidelines for the organization’s work in consultation with the association’s general assembly.

Welthaus Bielefeld is a nongovernmental organization that values its independence but seeks cooperation with various social groups. We are recognized as a nonprofit association and as a provider of youth welfare services; we hold the DZI donation seal, and we are signatories to the Declaration of Commitment of the Initiative for a Transparent Civil Society.

As a regional center with nationwide influence, Welthaus Bielefeld is a fixture in Germany’s development policy landscape. With its two distinctive building sections (the old and new wings), it stands as a symbol of the creative power of the third sector.
