The Weltmuseum Wien is one of the most important ethnological museums in Europe and houses one of the most extensive collections of non-European cultures in the world. The museum is located in the Neue Burg on Heldenplatz in the 1st district, right in the historic center of Vienna, and its location alone makes it an extraordinary place.

The collection comprises around 200,000 objects from Africa, America, Asia, Oceania and the Arab world, including some of the most important pieces of their kind anywhere. The feather crown of the Aztec ruler Moctezuma II is particularly well-known, one of the most famous and at the same time most controversial objects in the museum, which repeatedly raises questions about the origin, ownership and return of non-European cultural assets. The Weltmuseum addresses these questions openly and makes the discourse itself part of the exhibition.

What makes the museum particularly interesting is precisely this attitude. It is not just about showing objects, but about understanding their history, their origin and their significance for the people from whom they originate.
