Westfälischer Kunstverein

The Westfälischer Kunstverein is one of the oldest art associations in Germany and enjoys an international reputation. To this day, the Kunstverein promotes and establishes young contemporary art and, since the post-war period at the latest, has assumed significant responsibility for the promotion of young international artists in Münster. Numerous young artists who later gained international recognition were presented to a broad public for the first time here.

While the exhibition practice is dedicated to contemporary art, the focus of the collection is on Old Westphalian painting. The collection of around 2000 works is on permanent loan to the LWL Museum of Art Culture (formerly the Westphalian State Museum).

Linked to the Landesmuseum since 1908, the Kunstverein has been located on the first floor of the new museum building in Rothenburg since 2013.
