Winter and Christmas markets 2024 in Munich

Despite the cold, wet weather and darkness after 5 p.m., Munich will entice you with magical Christmas activities this winter. Whether you want to stroll through the traditional Christmas market or sip a pink mulled wine at the queer Christmas market on Stephansplatz, there's plenty going on outside. Those who prefer to stay indoors can look forward to Christmas concerts, theater and indoor carnival markets. These festive Christmas events will get you out of the house and straight into the Christmas spirit!

Munich has at least as many Christmas markets as it does festival tents at the Oktoberfest. There is something for everyone here: whether you prefer the traditional Christmas market on Marienplatz or medieval art on Wittelsbacherplatz, there is plenty to do! Mulled wine and co. are also available at the Tollwood Winter Festival, where performances and artistry captivate visitors. You can also celebrate the New Year here! Maybe you still haven't got a Christmas present and would like to take a look at the watercolor painting course for Christmas cards at CoArt - homemade gifts are the best anyway! If you're still looking for something for the bookworm in your circle of friends, you can pick up a few Christmas book recommendations from the Literaturhaus team. You'll also find the right recommendation for that father-in-law you never know what to give. If you're in the mood for culinary anticipation, the St. Nicholas Wine&Food Tasting Tour is just the thing for you, and you can even win tickets for it! You can combine the two at clay & glühwein at Gigi Room Ceramics: here you can have a nice evening with friends and create the next star of your crockery cupboard at the same time. If you prefer to bake and snack straight away, Baking & Mugs is the place for you! Christmas is of course also the time to tell and be told stories: At the Deutsches Theater, you can let yourself be carried away by the magic of Christmas just like Scrooge in the musical The Christmas Story! For more music, check out Merry Jazzmas and Chris Hopkins' Swinging Christmas at the Deutsches Theater. If you prefer to sing yourself, the Christmas sing-along in St. Sylvester or the big sing-along event in the Isarpost are perfect for you. One thing is for sure: during winter and Christmas in Munich, you might get cold, but you certainly won't get bored!
