International dance festival

The SoloDuoFestival nrw + friends is an international dance festival that presents a broad spectrum of contemporary dance productions, primarily by up-and-coming artists. The annual festival presents solo choreographies with a maximum length of 6 minutes and duo choreographies with a maximum length of 9 minutes. The festival promotes internationally networked work and professional exchange among the participating dance artists. Voting for the (non-endowed) audience awards, which are awarded in addition to the endowed jury prizes, is particularly popular with the audience.

In addition to the performances, the festival offers professional workshops as part of the supporting program. Discussions between the participating artists and the festival's international jury about the productions on show offer an inspiring space for reflection on artistic language and working methods.

The festival has also served as a springboard for the presentation of selected productions at other international partner festivals, such as the Szóló Dúo Fesztivál Budapest or the Alamada International Dance Festival in recent years. This exchange is made possible by the support of the Kunstsalon Foundation. In 2025, the Quartier am Hafen will offer residencies for the artistic development of choreographic projects for the award-winning productions for the first time.

Through this dynamic environment, the SoloDuoFestival nrw + friends promotes a collaborative and integrative space for dance artists to engage, network and advance their creative work.
