The Afrika-Festival Stuttgart was founded in 2003 by two of the oldest and largest African migrant associations in Stuttgart (AVS - Afrikanischer Verein Stuttgart and Forum Afrikanum Stuttgart e.V.). With the festival, both associations created a platform to set their own African accent in Stuttgart's cultural life.

In 2007, the AFS was founded as an association with the aim of bringing the cultures of Africa closer to the people of the Stuttgart area. The Africa Festival focuses on the various facets of African cultures with a colorful program of music, dance, fashion shows, arts and crafts, culinary delights, inspiring lectures and film screenings, rousing drumming workshops, a children's program and an ecumenical church service.

The festival in the heart of Stuttgart's south has become an integral part of the city's cultural life and a shining example of diversity and community in action.
