The 2026 festival is dedicated to the theme Derrière le rire - Behind the laughter with a look at the power of humor, which superficially promises lightness, but at the same time finds its inspiration in history, social developments and becomes a courageous tool of criticism. Satires, puns and comedy penetrate the seemingly unambiguous, look behind the scenes and seek confidence. We pursue the human talent of facing the inadequacy of the world with cheerful composure and developing an understanding for others.

The festival will also continue to focus on themes of the "Weimar Triangle", because: As in the first declaration on the "Future of Europe" signed on August 29, 1991 in Weimar on Goethe's birthday by the German, Polish and French foreign ministers, Europe's growing together should be experienced through cross-border regional cooperation.
