Doctors Without Borders is the largest independent organization for emergency medical aid, founded on 21 December 1971.

The private aid organization provides emergency medical aid in crisis and war zones. It was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for this in 1999.

All sections at international level, including the German section, use the French name Médecins Sans Frontières, its abbreviation MSF and the translation into their respective language, for example Doctors Without Borders in English.
