The berlied Festival is the only festival in Berlin dedicated exclusively to art song.

berlied places the art song in an interdisciplinary context: each season, berlied brings together artists from different disciplines - from musical crossover projects with jazz and electronic music to video installations, poetry readings and visual art - and thus explores the expressive possibilities of the genre in new ways. This interdisciplinary approach broadens the narrative horizons and adds another level of interpretation to the dialog between music and poetry.

Special emphasis is placed on rarely performed repertoire and contemporary compositions. We also actively promote female artists (singers, instrumentalists, composers, poets). berlied is a springboard for emerging and established musicians to present their most personal and daring projects. Our audience, remarkably young for a classical music festival, continues to grow with each edition.

The festival is led by artistic directors Justine Eckhaut, French pianist and coach at the Berlin University of the Arts and the Berlin State Opera, and Sophia Stern, French-American mezzo-soprano, poet and librettist.
