beyond gravity 2025 is coming!
Our biennial, interdisciplinary festival for digital arts, dance and performance is entering its second round and will open the new season of the Theater im Depot from October 01 - 05, 2025!

The festival program in 2025 includes an exhibition in the beautiful central hall of the Depot cultural venue, Studio 2 of the Theater im Depot, as well as the Academy for Theatre and Digitality.

On the evenings, you can expect three world premieres in which dance and digital tools are combined. An audiovisual essay performance by Indian artist Kiran Kumar, a solo performance by Laura Waltz that deals with the live embodiment of digital avatars and a production by MIRA / Julia Riera that is based on a movement language developed in interaction with artificial intelligence.

The main theme of the exhibition and a symposium accompanying the festival this year is: Decolonizing the Digital.

Decolonizing the Digital means that we want to take a close look at where and how digital technologies cement or even reinforce power inequalities. It's about making these inequalities visible, talking about them - and artistically designing ways to change them or counteract them.

To this end, between June and October 2025, we have invited three curators and artist teams from the so-called Global South to develop new works together with regional developers, which will then be shown for the first time in the exhibition.
These projects are about exploring new connections between different types of knowledge and technologies - knowledge from different cultures and with different perspectives. A central question is: How can we design technologies in such a way that they incorporate many points of view and worldviews?

We will explore these artistic debates in greater depth over two festival days at our Beyond Gravity Reflections symposium, which combines the topics of digitality, decolonization and artistic research. In keynotes, lecture performances, project presentations and moderated discussions, various international perspectives will be brought into intensive dialog.
