Flaneur or regular guest, bestselling author or debutante, neighbor or long-distance traveler, stockbroker or barkeeper - you can meet them all in the "OskarMaria" brasserie: for a business or family meal, alone or with many, quickly or in peace.

The bright, high-ceilinged room in the Literaturhaus München can seat 220 people and is still reminiscent of its former function: there was once a market hall here and a school on the floors above. With the conversion of the building into the Literaturhaus and its opening in 1997, "a part of the old town was awakened from its slumber", as one journalist wrote, and the restaurant in the style of classic coffee houses is one of the most beautiful in Munich.

Quotes are embossed on the crockery and leather benches: "The whole of Munich is here today, there's something to be done!" it says, or "More eroticism please!". The man who wrote this is Oskar Maria Graf, the namesake of the restaurant and the reason for the city's most hidden memorial . Graf was a Bavarian poet, a rebel. He made revolution and emigrated to New York in the 1930s - far away from narrow-minded people and tyrants; in "OskarMaria" he found his way back to his homeland.

In 2007, the coffee house became a brasserie. The idea: to combine the regional with the cosmopolitan. A brasserie was originally a brewery pub with down-to-earth cuisine; although wine increasingly replaced beer, original, regional cuisine was and still is an integral part of legendary brasseries.

The "OskarMaria" is committed to this idea. The cuisine is regional, seasonal, with international dishes and French refinements - original and contemporary at the same time.
