New music deserves a stage - it was with this conviction that the Forum for Contemporary Music was founded in 2003 at the Institute of Musicology at Kiel University. Initially as a student initiative and since 2006 as a registered association, we promote and communicate new music in Germany's northernmost state. Our work includes the organization or support of concerts, the promotion of young talent in music practice and research as well as the development and maintenance of a database on contemporary composers in or from Schleswig-Holstein. In the history of the Kiel-based association, the Biennale Chiffren. Kieler Tage für neue Musik (2006-2018) has also made waves beyond the region.
