The German Design Club (DDC) is a voice for all design disciplines and forms a central network for designers in German-speaking countries.nIt stands for good design and deals with current design topics and trends in events and network formats.

One of the many event formats is the "DDC Salon NRW", an open networking platform for DDC members, interested parties and students. The regional salon has been held in Düsseldorf at regular intervals since 2023. Workshop visits, talks on current trends or major events, for example at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences or the NRW Forum, invite people to critically examine design-related topics.

The network format was founded in Düsseldorf in 2023 by designers Beate Steil, Nina Neusitzer and Ursel Schiemann and has established itself as a creative think tank that organizes events in Düsseldorf around twice a year.

Salon visit to ERCO in Lüdenscheid

The traditional and innovative company ERCO is known as a leading international specialist for sustainable architectural lighting with LED technology. With its "Greenology" corporate strategy for sustainable lighting, ecological responsibility is combined with technological expertise and constantly developed further. However, many designers are also familiar with ERCO through the well-known corporate design of design icon Ott Aicher, which has been preserved in its essential features to this day. ERCO's products and lighting solutions can be found worldwide in buildings, offices, museums and galleries in private and public spaces and are an integral part of architects' work.

On May 25, 2023, ERCO and Group Manager for Design Henk Kosche invited us to the company and gave us exclusive insights into ERCO's design work and marketing during a tour. This was followed by an exchange with DDC members, product designer Benedikt Wanner and product creators, designers and architects present on the topic of "Sustainability in design".

"Serendipity & Design - The art of traveling, living and working"

The DDC Salon NRW took place on April 23, 2024 in cooperation with the Düsseldorf Economic Development Corporation and the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences (Department of Design). Prof. Eberhard Holder and designer Micha Klein from Stuttgart reported on their six-month expedition to Mongolia: it was about communication, product and exhibition design, illustration, photography and, of course, adventure and travel. This was followed by a design discussion with Prof. Philipp Teufel (HSD), a specialist in the field of spatial communication. It was an exciting evening for students and professionals.

"Women in design"

On Nov 28, 2024, the DDC Salon NRW invited to the NRW-Forum Düsseldorf.
Under the title "Women in Design - Rebellion and Self-Empowerment", the role of women in design was examined and placed in the spotlight.

Prof. Dr. Gerda Breuer kicked off the event with a historical lecture on the struggles and successes of female designers who have fought for equal rights and participation in design.

Exciting contributions from female designers such as Daniela Burger (Missy Magazine), Maria Wintz (Ladies Wine & Design), Pauline Gebauer (3D design) and Tayo Osobu (product design) bridged the gap between past and present and shed light on the question of the social relevance of design from a female perspective.

Those who wished could take part in a guided tour of the current exhibition "Superheroes" before the event.
