EMOP Berlin - European Month of Photography

EMOP Berlin is launching its program for the 2025 edition of the festival with the leitmotif "What stands between us". Dangerous political moods show that democracies are threatening to become fragile and that their foundations, even in Europe, are more fragile than long believed and need to be strengthened again and again. We want to counter this with our own voice - and with images! - to counter this.

EMOP Berlin therefore takes a closer look and brings together exhibitions in which photographic projects give space to observations, experiences, expectations, hopes and fears about different conflict situations. With its contributions, EMOP Berlin aims to counter the ongoing mechanisms of polarization with dialogue.

On February 27, 2025, we invite you to the opening of the central festival exhibition was zwischen uns steht. Photography as a Medium of Chronicle with projects by around 20 contemporary artists at our festival center in the Akademie der Künste on Hansetatenweg. From here, we will kick off the EMOP Opening Days at the same location: with numerous artist talks, panel discussions, a film evening and an award ceremony - and of course the big EMOP opening party.

However, the key players in the largest biennial festival of photographic images in Germany are the many museums, exhibition venues, memorials, archives, collections, libraries, cultural institutes, universities, art academies and other educational institutions in the field of photography, municipal and private galleries and project spaces from Berlin - together with the exhibiting artists. They are the ones who enrich the festival each time anew.
