The foundation for the Feminist Action Weeks in Bochum was laid in the fall of 2018 with the founding of the former Initiative for Women's Struggle Day Bochum (now: "Furore Bochum. A Feminist Collective"). Around 8 March 2019, the international feminist day of struggle, the initiative put together a broad program for the first time, which included a wide range of events on the topic of feminism. Since then, the Feminist Action Weeks have been held annually around 8 March and are now supported and organized by a large alliance of various local groups, initiatives and associations.

The heart of the action weeks is the annual demonstration through Bochum's city center to mark the international feminist day of struggle. The subsequent program of events has already consisted of various formats in the past: various lectures and workshops are part of the program every year, but (theater) performances, exhibitions, readings and parties have also been part of the action weeks. Every year, the feminist action weeks aim to take feminist issues out of the niche and into the mainstream of society. The events are intended to appeal to people who are dealing with feminism for the first time as well as those who already have some knowledge. Feminist issues should be made visible and interested parties should be given a low-barrier opportunity to engage with them in a variety of ways.
