Project MIK e.V.

is an association of committed Krefeld residents and experts. Since 2010, it has dedicated itself to the design avant-garde of the early twentieth century with research projects, exhibitions, publications and films. The focus is on the architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and the Bauhaus and their connections to the Rhineland, the Rhenish velvet and silk industry and its protagonists, institutions and associations.

In 2011, Projekt MIK e.V. presented the results of the academic research on this topic to the public in a publication and the documentary film Mies in Krefeld. This was followed in 2013 by the architectural exhibition MIES 1:1 The Golf Club Project, which focused on the walk-in 1:1 model of an unrealized design by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for the Krefeld Golf Club from 1930. The exhibition was accompanied by specialist conferences and public events as well as publications and documentary films and attracted international interest.

In 2015-2019, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Bauhaus, Projekt MIK conceived and realized the research and exhibition project Bauhaus and the Silk Industry in the Krefeld Pavilion by Thomas Schütte as NRW's contribution to Bauhaus 100. The project was dedicated to the manifold connections of the legendary Bauhaus to Krefeld. The focus was on the cultural-industrial network of representatives of the artistic avant-garde, protagonists of the silk industry and various institutions from the 1920s to the post-war period. The artist Thomas Schütte created the Krefeld Pavilion as an exhibition building in Kaiserpark Krefeld for the exhibition.
