The Filmhaus Köln is an institution for film culture in NRW and throughout Germany. It is a meeting place for audiences and the film scene. It is open to different people to experience the art of film, engage in critical exchange, work as a film practitioner or curator or take part in educational programs.

The activities of the Filmhaus Köln are divided into three central areas of practice: cinema operations, film education, further training (film professionals) and the studio.
In addition to current cinema productions, the cinema in the Filmhaus shows a non-commercial program and cooperates with festivals, independent curators and film initiatives.
Film education is aimed at people of all ages and opens up a variety of approaches to the medium of film. The MiniFilmclub for preschool children is a permanent fixture at the theater. Ongoing projects include the mentoring program for young adults and the Young Film House. In addition, the film professionals offer further training courses in the field of film.
The studio offers film enthusiasts and young filmmakers support for their projects. For example, it is possible to borrow equipment or use the editing rooms in the building. Festivals and (film) cultural actors also work on the premises of the Filmhaus (more on this under 'Filmhaus community').

The Filmhaus is also a meeting place in the Veedel: the beautiful, bright foyer with a small café bar welcomes all those who simply cannot imagine Cologne without cinema posters, family Sundays and film festivals in summer, including an open-air program.
