Why do we celebrate Franzbrötchentag?

LOKL Hamburg has initiated a petition with the aim of establishing October 4 as the official Franzbrötchen Day. The Franzbrötchen is a symbol of Hamburg's food culture and craftsmanship. These should be honored and celebrated on Franzbrötchentag.

Why October 4?

The date was chosen deliberately: It is the day of St. Francis and in Sweden it is also the
"Day of the Cinnamon Roll" - a relative of the Franzbrötchen. Hamburg deserves its very own, unmistakable tradition on this day.

A petition and a demonstration for a cinnamon roll? That may sound like fun to some at first glance. And fun is actually very important when it comes to both running and eating Franzbrötchen. We want to pick people up with something positive to draw attention to an important economic and political issue: LOKL Hamburg is committed to promoting regional products and manufactories. With Franzbrötchentag, the company wants to celebrate Hamburg values: quality, tradition and community. Franzbrötchentag acts as a symbol for the local, because no product embodies Hamburg's craftsmanship and the food culture of the Hanseatic city more sympathetically than the Franzbrötchen. With our call for a Franzbrötchentag, we are calling for conscious, sustainable, local consumption and support for Hamburg's manufactories in order to counteract the monopolization of retail and online trade.
