The International Dixieland Festival Dresden was founded in 1971 and is the world's largest and oldest festival for traditional jazz. Every year in May, Dresden is transformed into the European capital of Dixieland for eight days and attracts up to 400,000 visitors from all over the world.

The festival offers more than 40 events at various venues in and around the city, including concerts, swing dance/ Lindy Hop events, family and children's formats and ends with the legendary closing parade through Dresden's city center. The festival has been shaping Dresden's cultural life for more than five decades and has delighted millions of music fans.
