Churches are places of encounter - with religious, but also with social issues. One way of communicating this is through art. The Kulturkirche Bremerhaven brings contemporary art directly into the congregation, making it tangible and opening up the church space to new perspectives.

Every year, the Kulturkirche Bremerhaven is dedicated to a new theme, which is illuminated by a variety of very different artistic positions. The special atmosphere of St. Paul's Church in Lehe, built in 1905 in neo-Gothic brick style, makes it a unique place thanks to its architecture and its location in a lively, diverse district. The space of St. Paul's Church with its own history often becomes part of the art itself.

The program of the Kulturkirche is just as diverse as the church and art itself: In recent years, readings, performances, film and dance performances as well as a wide variety of exhibitions ranging from installations and photographs to paintings have taken place. These formats are complemented by a varied accompanying program and themed cultural services.

This diversity is also thanks to the close collaboration with numerous cooperation partners. The network not only enriches visitors, but also the district, the city and the artists and their supporting institutions.

Since 2013, the Kulturkirche Bremerhaven has been supported by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover, the Hanns Lilje Foundation andthe Bremerhaven church district, thus achieving a far-reaching impact.
