Founded in 1827, it is one of the oldest art associations in Germany and exhibits the art of tomorrow. Since 1997, the Kunstverein Freiburg has been located in the former Marienbad, where its exhibitions and event programs take place in the spacious hall. As a space characterized by experimental approaches and critical discussions, the Kunstverein Freiburg has established itself beyond regional and national borders as an independent voice in the current art scene.

In our exhibitions, we present new, internationally relevant artistic practices for discussion. Profound social and political upheavals, ideologies and power relations, economic forces, ecological destruction and technological developments are the background to contemporary artistic creation. Artists reflect on these as well as media conditions and institutional requirements. Based on the art presented, we deal with social issues and involve other disciplines in order to enable a critical examination of forms of the present.
