Central German Short Film Festival

KURZSUECHTIG is a short film festival especially for short films from Central Germany (Saxony, Thuringia, Saxony-Anhalt). Every year, during the five-day festival in Leipzig, we show the best regional short films from the categories animation, documentary, fiction and experimental.

The competition for film music & sound design gives promising sound artists a stage.
The latest technical possibilities are explored in the competition for Extended Reality.

2026 marks the 23rd edition of the festival. It will take place from April 8 - 12, 2026 at the Schaubühne Lindenfels in Leipzig. The exhibition of selected extended reality projects6 with an interactive tour will take place from April 10-12 at the Heilandskirche Westkreuz.

In addition to eight competitions & award ceremonies, a guest country special on short films from Turkey, two children's programs, a networking meeting of Central German film, art and technology students as well as workshops and film talks will be held during the festival week in order to strengthen regional film culture, facilitate contact between the audience and filmmakers, but also between filmmakers and the media/film industry.

The festival is deliberately dedicated exclusively to regional film events. As the largest short film festival for Central German productions, KURZSUECHTIG aims to offer young filmmakers from Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia the opportunity to present their work on the big screen, network within the industry and gain valuable experience for their future careers.
