Musical highlights with the MDR ensembles - during the concert season and the MDR Music Summer
The three ensembles of the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk are at home in the heart of the music city of Leipzig and enrich the cultural life of the region as well as the MDR program with their concerts and productions. The MDR Symphony Orchestra is the oldest radio orchestra in Germany and sets the tone far beyond Central Germany with innovative and creative projects. In 2024, it celebrated its 100th anniversary - as did the MDR Radio Choir, the largest and most traditional choir in public broadcasting. It is considered one of the best and is a sought-after partner of renowned orchestras at home and abroad. The MDR Children's Choir is the only ensemble of its kind sponsored by ARD and can look back on more than 75 years of uninterrupted tradition. The diverse repertoire of the MDR ensembles spans almost a millennium of music history and ranges from classics and film music to contemporary world premieres.
