Münchner Schiene

In the page's words:

MÜNCHNER SCHIENE Organized by the Munich Adult Education Center

CURATED BY CHRISTINA MADENACH & CHRISTIAN SCHÜLE

The Münchner Schiene leads into the workspace of literature. Literature is always made, produced, is process and curation, reception, criticism and translation. We follow the production of texts and lead the literature that the city produces back to the people in the city.

Literature is a broad field of diverse activities and creative translation of the reality of life into words and images. It should be experienced with as many senses as possible and be experienced in the flesh. In this respect, it is always about questions of literary transformation, participation and collaboration between literature, typography and craft.

Literature comes to life where it is created: in the noise of a city that is incredibly rich in literary voices. We cordially invite everyone who is interested in the various aspects of the production of literature to enter this special workspace and, through discussion, exchange and personal participation, to set in motion the process that ultimately produces what we love: Literature.

In 18 different events, we will celebrate language, words and texts in all their lavish diversity, take a thoughtful look at the cultural and political conditions under which literature is created today and allow as many people as possible to participate in shared literary moments.

The events take place in both familiar and unusual locations: At Gasteig HP8 you can expect an exhibition with texts by authors from the Munich circuit, at the Open House of the independent scene at the Einstein 28 education center the already well-known networking. There will also be talks at the Munich Urban Collab and the Lyrik Kabinett as well as a special live performance at the Nymphenburger Porzellanmanufaktur. Or experience literature in motion, on walks with authors to the original locations of their novels. Literature is not bound to any specific place, it is possible everywhere and resonates in the echo chamber of this city.

The Münchner Volkshochschule is the largest and oldest adult education center in Germany. With around 18,000 events a year, including many concerts, readings, debates, exhibitions, guided tours and slams, it offers an extremely diverse program for Munich.
