The Neue Medien e.V. association was founded in the early 1990s in the wake of changes in the media landscape due to the emergence of the internet and the challenges for traditional media and their creators. The focus of the association's work was on the importance of media for emancipatory and solidarity-based developments, especially for the LGBT+ community and for inclusion.

The association is an association of people interested in media, media and cultural creators and artists of all kinds and cultural experiences and those who want to become one: Journalists, bloggers, photographers and authors, youtubers and media designers.

Over time, the association has undergone a variety of changes in line with the rapid changes in the development of media and social media and has opened up new fields for the association's work: In addition to traditional topics such as qualified journalistic work, the promotion of art and culture - and their importance for media work -, education or civic engagement.

The association regularly conducts training courses (workshops) on working with media (currently, for example, the Community Workshops project on social media) as well as cultural projects such as the Pride Poetry Poetry Video Competition 2021.
