Peace and human rights groups founded the association Forum Ziviler Friedensdienst e.V. - now known as Pro Peace - in 1996. We are now active in 13 countries in Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia. Our work focuses on civil society actors who are committed to peace and non-violence in conflicts. We advise and support them in their commitment, implement joint projects and work together to promote a sustainable peace policy. Since 2006, we have also been contributing our expertise in international conflict work at local level in Germany.

We are convinced that peace can be taught and learned. With our Academy for Conflict Transformation, we therefore offer professional further education and training in peace and conflict work. We also create peace education programs for children and young people.

Pro Peace is a state-recognized sponsoring organization of the Civil Peace Service (ZFD) and a signatory of the Transparent Civil Society Initiative. For our peace work, we received the Gustav Heinemann Citizens' Prize in 1997, the Göttingen Peace Prize in 2005, the Sievershäuser Ermutigung Peace Prize in 2014 and the Klaus Jensen Foundation's Reconciliation Prize in 2022.
