The only orchestra among the German concert and theater orchestras with symphonic wind instruments was founded in 1950 under the name Rundfunk-Blasorchester Leipzig and was active for the radio station in Leipzig for a total of 41 years. To this day, the musical work in the radio and recording studios is an important indicator of the high artistic quality.

In order to highlight the artistic quality and emphasize the symphonic orientation, the orchestra has been operating under the name Sächsische Bläserphilharmonie since 2010.

The Sächsische Bläserphilharmonie is characterized by its very own multi-faceted sound spectrum. Both contemporary original compositions and transcriptions of masterpieces from music history form the repertoire. Symphonic chamber music can also be performed in the concert halls by the various ensembles of the Sächsische Bläserphilharmonie, from wind quintets to serenade ensembles.

In addition to concert series in the cultural region of Leipzig (Leipzig district and North Saxony district), the Saxon Wind Philharmonic is in demand as a guest orchestra throughout Germany and abroad. During its touring activities, the orchestra has visited many countries in Europe and overseas, where it has taken part in international music festivals and performed in renowned concert halls.
