In the fall of 2015, people came together in Regensburg who no longer wanted to watch people die in the Mediterranean. First and foremost, Michael Buschheuer, an entrepreneur from Regensburg, with family and friends. Together they founded the Sea-Eye association. The aim of the association is to find people in distress at sea and rescue them. A 26.5 m long fishing cutter, the SEA-EYE, formerly STERNHAI (built in 1958), was acquired privately. Refitted by volunteers at the shipyard in Rostock, the SEA-EYE was transferred from Rostock to Licata (Sicily) at the end of February 2016. And thus begins the sea rescue work of the Sea-Eye e. V. association.
