The Sounds of Ukraine festival will take place in the Cologne area for the third time in 2026. It is dedicated to Ukrainian classical music and places it in a lively dialog with European traditions.

The focus of each season is on encounters: in each concert, a Ukrainian composer enters into a relationship with a European colleague. In this way, common artistic lines, aesthetic affinities and historical interdependencies become audible - beyond borders and epochs.

The programs for the coming season connect Viktor Kosenko with Frédéric Chopin, Theodor Akimenko with the French school, Vasyl Barvinsky with Antonín Dvořák and Valentyn Silvestrov with Giya Kancheli, among others. Different styles and periods merge into a musical conversation of great depth and topicality.

The artistic director of the festival is pianist Violina Petrychenko. She has been committed to promoting Ukrainian piano and chamber music in Europe for many years. The growing response from the audience gave rise to the idea of her own festival - a project that today brings together musicians from Ukraine and Europe.

Sounds of Ukraine sees itself as a cultural bridge: a festival that makes forgotten music audible, reveals European connections and gives the audience direct access to the diversity of Ukrainian music.
