Since the official founding of Ullstein Buchverlage in 1903, our books have been characterized by the sacred owl of Athena. It is the symbol of science and wisdom and comes from the signet ring of the company founder.

Ullstein was founded in 1877 as a newspaper publishing house by Leopold Ullstein; the book publishing house was founded in 1903 under the direction of editor Emil Herz. Even then, the publishing house had the vision of combining great literature with the aim of entertaining its readers.
